ROYEE WENG

I am a visual artist and strategic designer, integrating an interdisciplinary study of moving image arts and visual design through the lens of innovation and social change. Influenced by my experience growing up as a child of immigrants and finding myself frequently shifting between different cultural ways of being, I have a deep interest in the diverse and nuanced stories, histories, and cultures experienced across communities. I am driven by inquisitiveness, and through an iterative and community-oriented design and storytelling background, my process and work centers empathy and connection in an effort to produce authentic impact.

I recently received my MFA in Photography, Video, & Related Media at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where I made a thirty-minute film that depicts the burden of the wounded Divine Feminine as well as the joy of her healing and embodied self. Illustrated throughout the piece are expressions of pain and matrilineal generational trauma, alongside their relationship to the concept of the divine feminine. The process of making this film was both a practice in connection and community building as well as a ritual towards healing.

I am also a graduate from Parsons School of Design with a BFA in Integrated Design (with a focus in Moving Image Arts) and a minor in Creative Entrepreneurship.

My toolbox of softwares includes proficiency in Adobe Suite: Premiere Pro, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Aftereffects, and Audition. I am still also honing my skills in TouchDesigner and Cinema 4D.

Asides from freelancing, I am currently in the midst of documenting and editing FLUX: an ethnopoetic meditation and series of vignettes on the Changing State of the "American Dream”.
